Abstract
Background: The population of Indonesia is increasing and faster than population projections by the Central Bureau of Statistics. Uncontrolled population growth causes many problems of population in Indonesia. The low participation of men in family planning especially vasectomy affected by stigma in society about vasectomy. This study aimed to explore the experience of vasectomy acceptors and to verify the stigma that exists in society.
Research Methods: This study is a qualitative research with phenomenological approach. Qualitative data collection conducted in-depth interviews at 12 vasectomy acceptors by using an interview guide. Information obtained from the study subjects recorded in transcript form, then by the coding and grouped into categories and to build a theme. Verification of data is done with a method of triangulation data on the respondent's wife and family planning field workers.
Results: The results of the experiences of the participants before becoming a vasectomy acceptors, include stigma, counseling, long since decided, the reason for the election, feedback wife, a feeling that is felt by the acceptor before vasectomies, while the experiences of the participants after becoming acceptors of vasectomy, including information post-action, changes in health, sexual changes, post-action complaint and regret.
Conclusion: Experience vasectomy acceptors different from vasectomy stigma that circulate in society today. Care providers are expected to improve the quality of care, especially related to the actions of counseling before the procedure to increase the satisfaction of the client experience and to avoid the risk of regret. The driver of the village family planning, health professionals and stakeholders are expected to benefit Air-coordination in increasing participation of men in family planning. The government felt the need to make the appropriate media campaign involving vasectomy acceptors to give testimony related experience as a vasectomy acceptors.
